WASHINGTON – U.S. Sens. Roger Wicker and Thad Cochran today announced the Delta Regional Authority (DRA) has approved a $161,822 grant to Magee Hospital to provide equipment for a new emergency room.

The Magee Hospital emergency room serves more than 11,000 persons annually.  People from towns and cities within a 40 mile radius use Magee Hospital’s emergency room because of the closure of many rural hospital emergency rooms in the area. 

“This funding is important because it provides for new emergency room equipment that will increase access to quality healthcare for the people of Simpson County,” Sen. Wicker said. 

By helping provide equipment for Magee Hospital’s new emergency room, this important project increases access to quality healthcare for the citizens in Simpson County,” Sen. Wicker said.   

In addition to the DRA grant, local sources will provide $69,353, bringing the total project funding to $231,175.
