Sens. Wicker and Cochran Announce $150,000 for City of Tupelo
October 1, 2008
WASHINGTON – U.S. Sens. Roger Wicker and Thad Cochran today announced that the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) has approved $150,000 in funding for the City of Tupelo to construct improvements at the Tupelo Lee Industrial Park South. The funding will support the creation of 25 new jobs and leverage $2.3 million in private investment.
“This represents a great example of the federal government partnering with state and local government to expand economic opportunity in Mississippi,” Sen. Wicker said. “This funding will enable business expansion and create new career opportunities in Tupelo.”
A local business which produces component parts for blinds and window covering, and employs 180 people, is implementing an expansion plan. The company is adding 54,000 square feet to its 270,000 square-foot facility to house technical services. Due to the expansion, insurance requirements dictate an increase in fire protection capacity. To meet these requirements, a proposed 250,000 gallon ground water storage is needed.
In addition to the ARC funds, state sources will provide $500,000, and local sources will provide $78,000, bringing the total project funding to $728,000.
