Cochran and Wicker Announce Funding for Calhoun County Police Departments

WASHINGTON – U.S. Sens. Roger Wicker and Thad Cochran today announced that Calhoun City and Vardaman have been selected to receive grants totaling $17,116 through the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development program.  Vardaman will receive a grant totaling $12,694 to purchase a new pickup truck for the police department.  Calhoun City will receive a grant of $4,422 to purchase a police car.       

“Law enforcement officers in Calhoun City and Vardaman provide an invaluable service to the people in Calhoun County,” Senator Wicker said.  “These grants will allow for the replacement of aging vehicles and help the police departments in Calhoun City and Vardaman provide better assistant to their residents.”

The USDA Rural Development Program aims to increase economic opportunity and improve the quality of life in rural America.  This is done by providing financial and technical assistance to foster growth and new opportunities for business development, home ownership, and critical community and technology infrastructure.
