Sens. Wicker, Cochran Announce $300,000 Grant for Marshall County

July 11, 2008

WASHINGTON – The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) has approved a $300,000 grant to Marshall County for the construction of a sewer collection system for the Cayce community, U.S. Sens. Roger Wicker and Thad Cochran said today.  The funds will help provide sewer service to 137 households and six businesses.

“Improving wastewater infrastructure is critical to attaining a better quality of life for those in rural Mississippi,” Sen. Wicker said.  “This important funding will extend wastewater services and help contribute to a healthier and cleaner environment in Marshall County.”

The Marshall County Board of Supervisors will administer the grant, which will help alleviate the problem of sewage that is collecting in yards and roadside ditches.  ARC funds will be used to install six miles of sewer line and a lift station.

In addition to the ARC grant, the state will provide $600,000 from the Community Development Block Grant program, and $425,500 from the Water Pollution Control Revolving Loan Fund (WPCRLF), bringing the total project funding to $1,325,500.
