JACKSON, Miss. – In a phone call today with Vasil Sikharulidze, the Georgian Ambassador to the United States, Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., offered his support to war-torn Georgia.
“I wanted Ambassador Sikharulidze to know that his country has my support and the support of thousands of people across Mississippi as they fight against what has clearly been unnecessary aggression by Russia,” Wicker said.
Wicker said the U.S. should continue to be firm in its disapproval of Russia’s actions while also continuing to provide assistance to Georgians suffering from the fighting.
“Georgia’s young and developing democracy is at stake, as is the independence of millions of Georgian people. The U.S. should continue providing support and assistance to Georgians in need and work with our allies to ensure Russia backs down and honors the recent cease-fire agreement.”
