Sens. Wicker, Cochran Announce $150,000 Grant for Amory

September 10, 2008

WASHINGTON – U.S. Sens. Roger Wicker and Thad Cochran today announced the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) has approved a $150,000 grant for the City of Amory to construct infrastructure improvements and support the creation of 12 new jobs and the retention of 469 existing jobs.

The electrical system servicing a Monroe County-owned facility is faulty and needs to be replaced.  Extensive power outages have caused hardships to the industry leasing the space.  ARC funds will be used to install new conductor cable and related equipment to ensure that the facility’s power supply is safe and reliable.

“This funding represents an important infrastructure investment that will create jobs and help grow Amory’s economy,” said Senator Wicker.

In addition to the ARC grant, the state will provide a $150,000 grant and a private industry will contribute $62,500, bringing the total project funding to $362,500.
