WASHINGTON – U.S. Sens. Roger Wicker and Thad Cochran today announced the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) has approved a grant totaling $240,000 for the City of Sardis. The funds will be used to make water infrastructure improvements in order to provide safe, potable water to 857 households and 10 industries.
“Clean water is critical to attaining a better quality of life for those in rural Mississippi,” Sen. Wicker said. “This grant will help provide safe, dependable water for the citizens of Sardis.”
ARC funds will be used to install 3,800 linear feet of sewer lines and replace pumping stations and manholes. The improvements will alleviate the public health threat caused by the current system.
In addition to the ARC grant, the Mississippi Development Authority will provide a $60,000 loan, bringing the total project funding to $300,000.
