Sens. Wicker and Cochran Announce $24,000 Grant for Ackerman Police Department

September 25, 2008

WASHINGTON – U.S. Sens. Roger Wicker and Thad Cochran today announced that Ackerman has been selected to receive a $24,000 grant to help purchase new police cars through the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development program.  The funds will be used to purchase two new patrol cars which are essential due to the age and lack of dependability of the police department’s current patrol vehicles.

“Law enforcement officers in Ackerman provide an invaluable service to the citizens of their community,” Senator Wicker said.  “This grant will allow for the replacement of aging vehicles and help the police department provide better assistance to the residents of Ackerman.”

The USDA Rural Development Program aims to increase economic opportunity and improve the quality of life in rural America.  This is done by providing financial and technical assistance to foster growth and new opportunities for business development, home ownership, and critical community and technology infrastructure.
