Wicker Demands FEMA Respond to Governor Barbour’s Request for Individual Assistance for Hurricane Gustav Recovery

September 24, 2008

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) today sent a letter to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) requesting a response to Governor Haley Barbour’s request for individual federal disaster assistance following Hurricane Gustav.

In a letter to FEMA administrator David Paulison, Wicker expressed disappointment in FEMA’s inability to respond to Gov. Barbour’s written request for hurricane disaster relief.

Wicker wrote: “I am appalled at the lack of a timely response to Governor Barbour’s written request for Individual Assistance.” Wicker added, “Victims of Hurricane Gustav have dealt with significant hardship since the storm made landfall.  They should not have to suffer further due to this unnecessary bureaucratic delay.”

Wicker requested that FEMA act quickly to provide certainty to the people of Mississippi and their communities.
