Wicker Picks Up Key Committee Assignments
Senator Adds Foreign Relations and Small Business Committees
January 22, 2009
WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., today announced he had secured seats on two additional committees, including the influential Foreign Relations Committee and the Small Business Committee. Sen. Wicker will also retain his spots on the Armed Services Committee, the Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, and the Veterans' Affairs Committee.
Wicker said his assignment to the prominent Foreign Relations Committee, in addition to his seat on the Armed Services Committee, will put him in a good position to advocate for strong national security policies while also working to ensuring Mississippi continues playing a leading role in keeping our country secure.
“I am glad to have the opportunity to serve on both the Foreign Relations and Armed Services Committees,” Wicker said. “These sought-after committee assignments will give Mississippi a voice in important debates on foreign policy and national security matters. I intend to use this opportunity to work on defense issues important to our state’s economy and our nation’s security.”
Additionally, Wicker said he is looking forward to his new post on the Small Business Committee. “As they do across the country, small businesses drive the economy in Mississippi,” Wicker stated. “I will use my spot on the Small Business Committee to increase incentives for our small businesses and to work on putting policies in place that keep small businesses viable in the increasingly competitive global marketplace.”
Sen. Wicker’s committee assignments were announced Wednesday night by Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.
