WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Thad Cochran, Roger Wicker, and U.S. Representative Gregg Harper today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation has released $4,980,692 in funding for the Jackson-Evers International Airport. These funds will provide the airport with security enhancements and will improve the terminal. It will also rehabilitate the runway and modernize the drainage system.
“I was privileged to notify the Jackson Municipal Airport Authority today about the improvements this will bring to the state’s largest airport,” said Congressman Gregg Harper. “This grant will provide the airport with the funds it needs to improve the safety and aviation Jackson-Evers already offers to the people it serves.”
Senator Cochran added, “It is important for our state capital to have access to the best possible air service. These funds will improve the facilities at the Jackson-Evers International Airport and help ensure the airport is able to provide the best possible service to Mississippians and those visiting our state’s capital.”
Senator Wicker added, “This is an important investment in our state’s largest airport. These federal dollars will increase safety and efficiency at Jackson-Evers International, allowing the airport to continue benefiting both travelers and the Jackson area’s economic development efforts.”
