Wicker Statement on Pending Nomination of Former Gov. Ray Mabus as Secretary of the Navy
March 27, 2009
WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, today said the selection of former Mississippi Governor Ray Mabus as Secretary of the Navy would be a positive development for both our Navy and for the state of Mississippi. The Associated Press reported this afternoon that President Obama is expected to formally nominate Governor Mabus for the post.
“This is very positive news for our nation’s sailors and Marines as well as for the state of Mississippi. Ambassador Mabus informed me some time ago that he was under consideration for this post and I offered him my full support. As a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, I look forward to assisting in his confirmation process and to working with him to strengthen and improve our Navy.”
