Sen. Wicker Successfully Votes to Block Federal Funding of ACORN

September 14, 2009

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., today voted to block the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) from receiving federal funds for housing programs.

After being under investigation for voter registration fraud in several states, the Senate overwhelmingly made ACORN ineligible to access federal funds in the Transportation and Housing Appropriations bill.  The amendment passed by a vote of 83-7.

“In a strong bipartisan manner the Senate blocked federal funding to ACORN.  This is a win for taxpayers who don’t want our tax dollars being funneled to organizations who have no respect for our rule of law,” said Sen. Wicker.
