NEW ALBANY & BOONEVILLE AIRPORTS RECEIVE HANGAR FUNDS

July 19, 2010

WASHINGTON, D. C. – U.S. Senators Thad Cochran and Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) today announced the award of two federal grants to support hangar construction projects at the general aviation airports in Booneville and New Albany, Miss.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approved a $150,204 grant to support hangar construction at the Booneville-Baldwyn Airport in Prentiss County.  A similar $124,500 award will support construction at the New Albany-Union County Airport.

“I am pleased these two local airports in northeast Mississippi are receiving this assistance to improve aircraft storage needs, which should serve to support greater aviation activities at each,” Cochran said.

“This is great news for Prentiss and Union County,” said Wicker. “This funding will help the local airports meet the construction needs to further support general aviation in Mississippi.”

The Booneville and New Albany grants derive from the FAA Airport Improvement Program (AIP) grant funding and are provided through the FY2010 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill.  AIP grants are used to support infrastructure development projects that will improve operational safety and efficiency at local airport facilities.
