Wicker Calls on Senate to Vote on Health Care Repeal
Mississippi Senator says repealing and replacing Obamacare is a top priority
January 19, 2011
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) today urged the Senate to vote on a repeal of the President’s unpopular health care law.
“The American people remain opposed to this harmful legislation, and the Senate should listen to them,” said Wicker. “Obamacare greatly increases the government’s role in our health care system and fails to lower costs, which is the leading hurdle to access for most Mississippians. In addition, the 2,000-plus page law increases taxes by $500 billion and raids the Medicare program to pay for new, unfunded entitlements. Repealing and replacing the health care law is a top priority of mine.”
Wicker voted against the health care bill last year. The measure was rammed through with only partisan support, and recent polls show public opposition to the law remains high. The law also burdens American families and small businesses through billions of dollars in new taxes and costly regulations. This stifles job creation at a time when one in ten Mississippians are actively looking for work.
