WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) received the “True Blue” award for his support of life and family issues from FRC Action and CitizenLink. Wicker received a 100 percent grade from the two groups for his votes during the 111th Congress.
“Families remain the foundation of American society, and I am proud to receive this award for my work to strengthen them,” said Wicker. “I will continue to stand up for the institution of family and to protect life. We must always remember that life is a special gift.”
FRC Action and CitizenLink scored 24 votes between 2009 and 2010. Those votes included a no vote on the President’s health care bill. In addition, an amendment introduced by Wicker to prevent abortion proponents from undermining a ban on federal funding for the United Nations Population Fund from being used to support coercive abortion or involuntary sterilization programs was graded.
Recently, Wicker reintroduced the Life at Conception Act, which defines that life begins at conception. Wicker’s bill is a simple and straightforward piece of legislation to establish in law what most Americans believe and what science has long known – that human life begins at the moment of conception - and therefore is entitled to legal protection from that point forward. The Life at Conception Act would ensure that the Constitution’s fundamental right to life is applied to all Americans, particularly those who cannot speak for themselves.
