Wicker Votes for Short-Term Bill that Cuts $4 Billion in Federal Spending
March 2, 2011
Washington, DC – Senator Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) today voted for a two-week continuing resolution, which cuts $4 billion in spending while avoiding a federal government shutdown. The bill passed 91-9.
“Today’s vote is a good start toward reducing federal spending, but there is still a long way to go,” said Wicker. “We now have the opportunity to make additional spending cuts and put our country back on a fiscally responsible path. Over the next two weeks, Congress needs to make the decisions that are necessary to address our unsustainable deficit.”
Wicker has been calling on his colleagues in the Senate to cut their office budgets by at least five percent in 2011. While only a beginning, Wicker said the commitment would signal a change for the better in Washington.
