FAA Provides $1.01 Million Grant to Support New Terminal Construction at Tunica Municipal Airport

June 20, 2011

WASHINGTON, D. C. – U.S. Senators Thad Cochran and Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) today announced that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has approved a $1.01 million grant to support the construction of a new terminal building at the Tunica Municipal Airport.

The FAA grant is for Phase 1B of construction for the new terminal building, which is designed to support scheduled passenger service, as well as existing charter service and general aviation needs at the airport. The Tunica Municipal Airport is Mississippi's newest Primary Commercial Service Airport.

“I am pleased that the Federal Aviation Administration is providing Tunica with additional resources for this project, which will help accommodate passengers more efficiently.  The new terminal will help establish the airport as an economic draw in the Delta,” said Cochran, who serves as vice chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee.

“This grant is good news for residents and businesses in Tunica County,” said Wicker.  “Access to air travel helps promote economic growth, and improved facilities are important to achieve this goal.”

The grant funding is being awarded to Tunica County and the Tunica County Airport Commission.  The grant is the second awarded for the terminal building project, which is planned as a 10,500-square-foot facility.  Last June, Cochran and Wicker announced a $781,524 grant from the FAA to support Phase 1A construction of the terminal building.
