Wicker Calls for Focus on Debt and Spending Crisis

July 5, 2011

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) today called on Senate leaders to focus on the debt and spending crisis.

“We are in session this week for one reason and one reason only – to work on the debt and spending crisis,” said Wicker.  “The Majority Leader wants to turn attention away from his lack of a budget and Democrats’ call for higher taxes.  The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff has called our debt the single greatest threat to our nation, so that should be our focus.  I will oppose the motion to proceed to debate on Libya, and I urge my colleagues to join me.  We must demonstrate that we are willing to have a frank and honest discussion.”

Earlier today, Wicker spoke on the Senate Floor regarding the President’s call for raising the debt ceiling.  Those remarks can be seen here.
