Wicker- “President’s Budget Would Make Creating Jobs Tougher”
February 13, 2012
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) today issued the following statement after President Obama released his proposed FY2013 budget, which projects a federal deficit of more than $1 trillion for the fourth straight year.
“The President’s budget proposal again fails to solve the problems our nation faces,” said Wicker. “If enacted, this would make creating jobs tougher. President Obama’s proposed tax increases would be a wet blanket on jobs while the economy continues to struggle, and his plan would add to the federal debt that already stands at more than $15 trillion. Mississippi requires a balanced budget, and Washington needs the same.”
The President’s budget for FY2013 would total $3.8 trillion and calls for a tax increase of $1.5 trillion next year. Under the President’s proposal, spending would increase by $47 trillion over the next 10 years.
Last year, the President’s budget was defeated on the Senate floor with a vote of 0-97. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has said he does not anticipate a vote on a budget this year. The Democrat-controlled Senate has not passed a budget in more than 1,000 days.
