Wicker Statement on Additional Disclosures of Classified Intelligence Information
August 3, 2012
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Roger Wicker (R-MS), a senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, issued the following statement on the latest public disclosure of classified intelligence operations:
“I was shocked to read recent media reports outlining additional covert military and intelligence operations in the Middle East,” said Wicker. “The continued audacity of senior officials to compromise ongoing intelligence operations abroad is astounding. Their continued criminal disregard for the consequences of these disclosures of classified information warrants the immediate appointment of an independent special counsel.”
Senator Wicker has spoken on the Senate floor and signed a resolution calling for a special independent counsel after media outlets reported on multiple highly-sensitive, classified efforts by U.S. intelligence agencies within this past month.
