TUPELO, MISS. – Senator Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) this week was a guest on the Lars Larson Show and the Geraldo Radio Show to discuss his opposition to the President Obama’s nomination of former Senator Chuck Hagel to be Secretary of Defense.

In part, Wicker said: “I cannot imagine why [President Obama] is going to the trouble of picking Chuck Hagel when the president has received signals for weeks now from both the right and the left, from Democrats and Republicans, saying this is not a good choice. There are so many people – Democrat and Republican – who could sail through this process and could be confirmed 100-0, like Leon Panetta was ….”

In part, Wicker said: “If we had taken the advice of Chuck Hagel over his time in public office and in public life, the United States would be weaker, Israel would be weaker, and the Middle East would be a more dangerous place.”

Senator Wicker recently penned this op-ed in POLITICO on why Chuck Hagel is the wrong choice to lead the Pentagon.
