Wicker Statement on Senate CR Votes
September 27, 2013
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., issued the following statement regarding his votes pertaining to H.J. Res. 59, the FY2014 Continuing Resolution (CR):
“I voted today to support the House spending bill that defunds Obamacare and averts a government shutdown. The record is clear: Obamacare is a train wreck that hurts working families and America’s economy. Mississippians are feeling the effects of this harmful law, and I remain resolved to taking it off the books.
“A government shutdown is not in the best interest of our country and will do nothing to help our efforts in repealing Obamacare. Some have made the assertion that a vote to fund the government equals a vote for Obamacare. Nothing could be further from the truth. Senate Republicans are united in our opposition to the health-care law.
“Now is the time for the President to engage with Congress. His noticeable absence from the negotiating table is delaying real solutions for the American people. I urge the President to get off the sidelines and begin working with House Republicans to reach an agreement.”
