WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., issued the following statement after Sen. Thad Cochran, R-Miss., was officially confirmed as chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations by a unanimous vote:

“Mississippi has a trusted and proven leader at the helm of the powerful Senate Appropriations Committee,” said Wicker. “Thad’s guidance and experience will be instrumental to the committee’s work in finding fiscally responsible ways to fund the federal government while restricting excessive spending and reining in executive overreach. He will play a vital role in restoring the Senate to regular order and ensuring the timely approval of appropriations bills.”

Sen. Cochran previously chaired the committee in 2005 and 2006.
