Wicker Statement on U.S. Troops Being Deployed to Syria
Miss. Senator Issues Statement Regarding President’s Decision to Send U.S. Special Forces to Combat ISIS
October 30, 2015
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., a senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, issued the following statement regarding President Obama’s decision to deploy U.S. military personnel to Syria:
“Our lack of early decisiveness and lack of strategy in Syria left a power vacuum that is now being exploited by our adversaries. I have long stated that it is going to take military action to defeat ISIS. Victory cannot be achieved at the negotiation table alone. I am prepared to support the President’s decision to send U.S. special operation forces to Syria if he is acting on the advice and counsel of our generals. It needs to be a plan that has the full support of our trained military commanders – not another half-measure from the Administration. Our troops require a decisive approach that is worthy of their service and sacrifice in uniform.”
