Wicker: Obama Policies Have Not ‘Contained’ ISIL

Miss. Senator Calls on Administration to Halt Influx of Syrian Refugees

November 16, 2015

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., today issued the following statement regarding President Obama’s comments that his Administration’s approach toward ISIL is “the right strategy:”

“The time has come for the President to reassess his strategy, which has amounted to little more than half-measures. This is a wake-up call. The world is crying out for American leadership. It is absolutely essential that ISIL not be allowed to get a permanent foothold in the Middle East. This is the battle of the decade, and we need to treat it as such. I hope our generals and admirals will tell us what they need to win this fight. Then, Congress and the Administration should join together to give our military the tools they require to get the job done."

Wicker also addressed the issue of Syrian refugees being brought into the United States.

“The National Director of Intelligence has said that he cannot rule out the possibility that terrorists could pose as Syrian refugees,” Wicker continued. “Americans are right to be concerned. The Administration should halt the process of bringing in Syrian refugees until such time we can absolutely certify that these individuals do not pose a threat to our national security.”
