Wicker: Obama Prioritizes Far-Left Interests Over American Workers
Miss. Senator Issues Statement on Keystone XL Pipeline Decision
November 6, 2015
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., today issued the following statement after President Obama announced that his Administration would reject the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline:
“President Obama has once again proven that he prioritizes the interests of far-left environmental activists over American workers and the nation’s energy security. His decision today will deny jobs to tens of thousands of Americans who are actively looking for work. These resources will be developed regardless of the President’s opposition. But now they are likely to benefit China instead of the United States.”
According to the State Department, the project would have supported more than 42,000 jobs during construction, while having a minimal effect on the environment. The pipeline was projected to increase supply of North American energy through the shipment of more than 800,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
