Wicker Highlights Importance of Annual Defense Bill
May 26, 2016
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., a senior member of the Senate Committee on Armed Services, today spoke in support of the FY2017 “National Defense Authorization Act.” The legislation would provide American troops with the tools, equipment, and resources they need to face a dangerous world with many complex and changing threats.
Wicker highlighted the proposal’s provisions to promote innovation, improve the military health system, reduce wasteful spending, and ensure that the United States can stand with its allies to protect its national security interests.
As Chairman of the Subcommittee on Seapower, Wicker also worked to ensure that the Department of the Navy could fulfill its strategies in a manner that provides the best value to the taxpayer and the warfighter. That work included updating the Navy’s 30-year shipbuilding plan in an effort to maintain America’s dominant maritime position.
