Wicker Supports Commerce Secretary, Focuses on Economic Growth

Miss. Senator Questions Wilbur Ross on Insourcing Jobs, Broadband Infrastructure, Cutting Red Tape

January 18, 2017

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., a senior member of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, today questioned Wilbur Ross at his nomination hearing to be President-elect Trump’s Secretary of Commerce. Wicker specifically asked the nominee about the importance of foreign investment in the United States, the deployment of broadband infrastructure, and cutting through bureaucratic red tape.

Wicker stated his support for Mr. Ross following their meeting last month, in which they discussed ways to create jobs and spur economic development.

Mr. Ross has a record of supporting U.S. production and American workers, saving numerous companies and tens of thousands of jobs. Like President-elect Trump, Mr. Ross has stated his belief that cutting taxes for working Americans, reducing burdensome government regulations, and unleashing America’s energy resources will spur a thriving economy.

Following the questioning, Wicker commended Secretary Pritzker on her work to expand telehealth in Mississippi, which has saved lives and improved health outcomes throughout the state.
