October 3, 2017

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., today welcomed news that President Trump intends to nominate R.D. James to be Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works. If confirmed by the Senate for the position, Mr. James would oversee the Army Corps of Engineers.

“I believe R.D. James has the experience and skill necessary to lead the Army Corps,” Wicker said. “In Mississippi, we know all too well how important the Corps is to building infrastructure and keeping our homes and communities safe from floods. Mr. James knows how important it is, too. I am confident that he is the right man for the job, and I commend the President on his selection.”

In a February letter to the President recommending Mr. James to the post, Wicker and Sen. Thad Cochran, R-Miss., wrote, “Mr. James brings the background, leadership skills, and vision needed to advance the civil works mission of the Army Corps of Engineers and to make the necessary investments in America’s infrastructure.”

His nomination is also supported by the Mississippi Levee Board and the Yazoo-Mississippi Delta Levee Board.
