Wicker Commends UMMC Telehealth ‘Center of Excellence’ Designation

Miss. Senator Says This Is an Opportunity to Make a ‘Quantum Leap for Health Care’

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., today participated in a press conference announcing the designation of the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) as a Telehealth Center of Excellence. The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) recently selected UMMC to serve as a national clearinghouse for telehealth research and resources, including technical assistance. The UMMC Center for Telehealth is expected to use the HRSA designation to help increase the use of telehealth nationally.

The event was hosted by Senator Thad Cochran, R-Miss. Other participants included HRSA Administrator Dr. George Sigounas, HRSA Office for the Advancement of Telehealth Director Bill England, Congressman Gregg Harper, R-Miss., UMMC Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs Dr. LouAnn Woodward, and UMMC Center for Telehealth Executive Director Michael Adcock.
