Sen. Wicker, Rep. Kelly Meet Boy Scouts From North Mississippi

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., and Congressman Trent Kelly, R-Miss., today met with two groups of Boy Scouts from North Mississippi. The scouts are touring the nation’s capital before traveling to the 2017 National Scout Jamboree, to be held in Jean, W.Va., at Summit Bechtel Reserve from July 19 to July 28, 2017.

The scouts are representing the Yocona Area and Chickasaw councils of the Boy Scouts of America. The Yocona Area Council is headquartered in Tupelo, Miss., and serves 12 counties in Northeast Mississippi including, Alcorn, Benton, Itawamba, Lafayette, Lee, Marshall, Prentiss, Pontotoc, Tippah, Tishomingo, Union, and Yalobusha. The Chickasaw Council represents 17 counties in the Mid-South, including Shelby County in Tennessee, Crittenden County in Arkansas and these Mississippi counties: Bolivar, Carroll, Coahoma, DeSoto, Grenada, Humphries, LeFlore, Montgomery, Panola, Quitman, Sunflower, Tallahatchie, Tate, Tunica, and Washington.

The National Scout Jamboree is held once every four years and brings together 40,000 scouts from all 50 states for 10 days of ceremonies, community service, training opportunities, and outdoor adventures.
