Wicker Votes for Defense, Health-Care, Education Funding

Senate Reasserts ‘Power of the Purse’ by Passing 9 of 12 Annual Funding Bills

August 23, 2018

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., today voted for H.R. 6157, which includes two appropriations bills to fund defense, health-care, labor, and education programs. The Senate has now passed 9 of the 12 annual funding bills, representing nearly 90 percent of discretionary spending.

“One of the two appropriations bills passed today will continue to rebuild our military, including the building of more ships. The other will fund important programs at home including apprenticeship training, community health centers, Alzheimer’s research, and efforts to combat the opioid epidemic,” Wicker said. “I am proud that under Republican leadership we are reasserting Congress’s power of the purse to fund our national priorities in a responsible way. We are now on track to finalize these bills with the House in September, which would prevent the need for an omnibus bill.”
