WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., today met William “Bill” Barr, who is President Trump’s nominee for attorney general.

“President Trump has picked an eminently-qualified individual to lead the Department of Justice,” Wicker said. “As a former Attorney General of the United States and widely-respected lawyer, Bill Barr has the experience and knowledge necessary to serve as our nation’s top law enforcement officer.”

Barr served as the 77th Attorney General of the United States from 1991 to 1993 under President George H.W. Bush. Prior to his time as the chief attorney for the Department of Justice, Barr served as the Deputy Attorney General from 1990 to 1991 and as Assistant Attorney General in charge of the Office of Legal Counsel from 1989 to 1990. From 1982 to 1983, Barr served on the White House Domestic Policy Staff under President Reagan.

Barr attended Columbia University where he received his A.B. in government in 1971 and his M.A. in government and Chinese studies in 1973.  He served in the Central Intelligence Agency from 1973 to 1977.  Barr received a law degree with highest honors from George Washington University in 1977, and served as law clerk to Judge Malcolm Wilkey of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia.
