Wicker Supports Turkey Sanctions Bill
Legislation Would Punish Turkish Aggression Against Kurds in Syria
October 17, 2019
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., today announced his support for the Countering Turkish Aggression Act of 2019. The legislation introduced by U.S. Senators Lindsey Graham, R- S.C., and Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., would impose asset freezes, visa restrictions, and property blocks against Turkish leaders responsible for attacks on the Kurdish people in northern Syria.
“The United States has a moral obligation and a strategic interest in standing with our Kurdish friends in northern Syria,” Wicker said. “Attacks by Turkey against U.S. partners and innocent civilians are further destabilizing the region and bolstering America’s adversaries. These sanctions would help hold Turkey accountable.”
