Wicker Votes for Short-Term Funding Bill
Senate Approves Measure to Prevent a Government Shutdown
September 26, 2019
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., today issued the following statement after voting for a short-term bill to fund the federal government through November 21, 2019.
“I am deeply frustrated that Congress could not come to an agreement to fund the federal government fully before the current deadline and now must pass another short-term bill. I voted for this continuing resolution because it is preferable to the alternative of a government shutdown, but that is a poor standard by which to measure our work.”
“Our military and industrial base will face great uncertainty that will undermine readiness and cost taxpayers. I hope there will be no further delays and that we can get the appropriations process back on track. Congress should also immediately enact legislation to prevent shutdowns and avoid these unnecessary situations in the future.”
Wicker is a cosponsor of S.104, the End Government Shutdowns Act. The legislation would put an end to government shutdowns by automatically continuing funding for discretionary programs when there is a lapse in appropriations.
