Wicker Rallies for Life at Supreme Court

December 1, 2021

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., today spoke to a large crowd of pro-life supporters who had gathered at the Supreme Court in Washington in advance of oral arguments in the case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization.

Wicker joined Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch and other members of the Mississippi congressional delegation to provide closing remarks for the rally, which had been organized to urge the Supreme Court to uphold Mississippi’s 15-week abortion ban.

Thank you, Lynn Fitch. Isn’t she a great representative of women? Isn’t she a great representative of the state of Mississippi? For three decades, the state of Mississippi has been a pioneer in the fight for life.

We led the fight to say you can regulate clinics. We led the fight to say you can have a waiting period. And today a Mississippi case makes it to the Supreme Court. And it's been argued the best it possibly could.

Thank you to the legislators of Mississippi and to our Attorney General. I'll speak briefly. My wife is here. She and I have eight grandchildren. This is a picture of our youngest grandchild, Julia Vaughan Wicker. At 21 weeks this baby, this American baby, deserved protection, and that's what we're about today.

I think we've got some people here who believe the Bible. I won't point to anybody, but some of you know, Hebrews 12:1. We are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses. Therefore, let us run the race with perseverance.

There are people who could not be here today. They're part of that great cloud of witnesses. Henry Hyde is part of that great cloud of witnesses. Susan B. Anthony. Pro-Life Democrats like Harold Volkmer. Nino Scalia is part of that great crowd of witnesses today.

My colleague, Jay Dickey of Arkansas, is part of that great crowd of witnesses. Since we're surrounded by them and since the Bible says so, let's keep running the race with perseverance, and let's win the race for life. Thank you, and God bless you all.

On Tuesday, Senator Wicker also spoke from the Senate floor in support of Mississippi’s case. See his full remarks here.
