Wicker, Colleagues Condemn Communist China’s Actions in the South China Sea
March 11, 2021
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., this week joined his colleagues in introducing a resolution condemning Communist China’s actions to militarize the South China Sea. This resolution sends a clear message that the United States will not tolerate China’s extension of power into waters beyond its legitimate territorial sea boundaries.
“China’s claims to sovereignty over the South China Sea are unfounded and threaten the international order,” said Wicker. “The U.S. must hold Beijing accountable for its unauthorized expansions, and I applaud the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard for working to maintain the balance of power in the Pacific region.”
Wicker joined Senator Rick Scott, R-Fla., who introduced this legislation along with Senators Josh Hawley, R-Mo., Dan Sullivan, R-Alaska, and Thom Tillis, R-N.C.
The Senators also commended the United States Navy and Coast Guard for their efforts to ensure freedom of navigation operations.
