WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Roger Wicker, R-Miss., and Cindy Hyde-Smith, R-Miss., are among more than a dozen Senators sponsoring a resolution recognizing the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) response to the border crisis and its ability to adapt and respond to increased maritime threats and humanitarian needs.

S.Res.166, which was introduced by U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas), commends the 50,000 members of the USCG and reviews its success in seizing illegal drugs, interdicting foreign fishing incursions, and deterring illegal immigration.

The resolution expresses the Senate’s gratitude and recognizes that, “through selfless and dedicated service, the Coast Guard and Coast Guardsmen have remained ‘Always Ready’ to promote the highest level of maritime border security, ensuring the United States and the people of the United States are safeguarded from complex and evolving maritime threats.”

In recognizing the USCG for “ensuring the highest level of maritime border security,” the resolution highlights recent statistics on drug interdictions, migrant interdictions, and illegal fishing enforcements, including:

  • Conducting more than 6,300 boardings of U.S. fishing vessels and interdicting approximately 100 foreign fishing incursions; and
  • Interdicting approximately 12,500 illegal immigrants, a 150 percent increase from 2021.
