JACKSON – U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., released the following statement after the Environmental Protection Agency awarded over $33 million to Mississippi for Jackson’s water infrastructure upgrades.
“This funding will continue to help Jackson improve its drinking and wastewater systems. I am pleased with the work being done by the third-party manager. We will continue to support our state’s capital city in its pursuit to bring improved infrastructure to the citizens of Jackson,” Senator Wicker said.
The funding stems from the infrastructure bill that Senator Wicker helped negotiate as the then highest-ranking Republican on the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee. Senator Wicker has long supported federal efforts to improve Jackson’s water infrastructure.
Specifically, the funds are dedicated as:
- $22,419,000 in Clean Water General Supplemental funds
- $1,935,000 in Emerging Contaminant funds
- $9,568,000 under the Drinking Water Emerging Contaminant Fund
