Senator Wicker Celebrates Groundbreaking of New Power Plant in Washington County

November 7, 2024

GREENVILLE – Today, Entergy Mississippi held a groundbreaking ceremony for their first new natural gas power station in 50 years.

U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., issued the following statement:

"I applaud Entergy Mississippi for continuing to invest in our state. The power plant will bring more jobs, growth, and economic opportunity to Greenville and the surrounding communities,” Senator Wicker said. “Today is a great day for the Delta and our state.”

The new natural gas power plant will be the first combined-cycle combustion turbine power station that Entergy Mississippi has built from the ground up. The facility’s advanced and efficient technology will produce more electricity from the same amount of fuel, ensuring that our state has reliable energy for years to come.

Entergy Mississippi plans to retire the Gerald Andrus Steam Electric Station, which is currently located in Greenville. This new plant will generate more power which will help fulfill the future data center's energy needs.
