Senator Wicker Statement on Continuing Resolution’s Damage to National Defense

December 20, 2024

WASHINGTON Congress passed a continuing resolution (CR) to prevent a government shutdown and give lawmakers until March 2025 to reach an agreement on a long-term funding plan.

U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., the highest-ranking Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee, released the following statement:

“Every week, we hear about a new way in which the axis of aggressors is working together, a new capability in our adversaries’ arsenals, or a new front where China, Russia, and others are testing American resolve. Yet in this moment, the best Congress can muster is putting military modernization efforts on pause for another three months and shrinking our purchasing power for new weapons systems. We cannot continue to ask our service members to do more with less. While I am grateful that we avoided a shutdown, this way of doing business in Congress comes with a steep price for our military readiness,” Senator Wicker said.
