Senator Wicker Statement on Migrant Housing Project Halted in Tunica, Still Has Concerns About Its Future
The ORR has a history of chronic mismanagement and lack of oversight over these facilities

TUNICA COUNTY – The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) recently announced that they were considering housing unaccompanied migrant children in Tunica County, Mississippi. If the plan was approved, up to 2,000 children would have been housed at a vacant hotel. Last night, the Tunica Board of Supervisors voted to halt this proposal.
U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., issued the following statement.
“Many of my constituents had raised concerns about this project’s impact on the community. It was clear that Tunica County’s health care, transportation, and other services were not prepared for this sudden influx. I am glad this decision has been halted for now, but I am still worried about a similar proposal in the future and have shared those with HHS,” Senator Wicker said.
