WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., was sworn in to the U.S. Senate for another six-year term. He held the family Bible to underscore his commitment to the oath of office, which was administered by Vice President Kamala Harris.
“Serving the people of Mississippi is one of the greatest opportunities of my life. I hope to continue delivering results for our state during the 119th Congress,” Senator Wicker said.
Senator Wicker was accompanied during the ceremony by former senator and longtime friend Trent Lott, R-Miss. Wicker once worked as a Rules Committee staffer for then-U.S. Representative Lott. In 2007, Wicker succeeded Lott in the U.S. Senate. Today marked Senator Lott’s first return to the Senate chamber since his retirement.
The occasion also brought a number of former U.S. Senators to the Senate chamber, including Senators Norm Coleman, R-Minn., Bob Corker, R-Tenn., Mike DeWine, R-Ohio, Dean Heller, R-Nev., Cory Gardner, R-Colo., George LeMieux, R-Fla., Connie Mack III, R-Fla., Rob Portman, R-Ohio, Mitt Romney, R-Utah, and Rick Santorum, R-Pa., among others.
During Senator Wicker’s time in the Senate, he has championed policies that have created jobs, limited federal overreach, protected life, and maintained a strong national defense.
From 1995 to 2007, Senator Wicker served in the U.S. House of Representatives. He started his career in public service in the Mississippi Senate representing Lee and Pontotoc counties.
